Since the launch of Cup of Excellence Indonesia in 2021, it has triggered a wave of young Indonesian coffee producers. A set of generations that see opportunities and are determined to challenge the status quo of becoming the best specialty coffee producer in the world. This is what has drawn us to Bunge Lungi Estate, a promising talent from Gayo who has everything to offer.

Unlike other coffee processors, Bunge Lungi Estate spearhead by Eko Kundariyanto does not produce traditional process coffee such as natural, honey, or washed. He has a very clear idea to go with an experimental processing method to position the uniqueness of Sumatra coffee in the coffee market. This year, he focused on five different types of processing methods: natural anaerobic slow dry, mossto natural anaerobic, oxyana natural, natural hydro honey, and anaerobic washed. All these coffees are produced in limited quantities to ensure they hit quality control benchmarks and deliver the finest quality Bunge Lungi Estate coffee.

Our latest release, Black Maria Lot, is a 240-hour natural anerobic slow-dry process coffee. This is proof of the solid work done by them. This coffee has a complex and clean taste of tropical fruit flavours such as white grape, lychee cordial, mangoesteen, pear, and jasmine. This is the type of coffee that fits the specialty coffee description.

The Producer

It is a breath of fresh air to see a young generation with a fresh mindset make a change in the specialty coffee industry. Eko Kundariyanto, the man behind Bunge Lungi Estate, is a young man passionate and determined to make his way in the competitive Sumatra coffee landscape.

Looking at the immense amount of coffee produced in Sumatra, he took the initiative to play around with experimental processes with much better processing control and strict quality control. In 2023, he started Bunge Lungi Estate, a special project to cater traceable small-lot coffee with several experimental processes. Some exciting processes, such as mossto (coffee juice) and anoxic (water pillow bath), were also done by him.

Bunge Lungi Estate is located in Jagong Jeget and is mainly known for producing high-quality Sumatra coffee. This year, Eko is focusing on producing coffee from a single farm with a single lot concept. We are fortunate enough to have secured his first harvest and could not wait to continue offering Bunge Lungi Estate coffee in the future.
