Hidden in the folds of Southeast Asia’s vast archipelago, Indonesia is a land of deep-rooted coffee heritage. With thousands of islands forming diverse microclimates and growing conditions, the country offers a mosaic of flavour expressions. Among them, East Java stands tall a home to one of the largest and oldest coffee-growing regions in the nation.

The Ijen mountain terrain stretches across Megasari Mountain, the Ijen crater, and parts of Banyuwangi, Bondowoso, and Situbondo regencies. This highland corridor opens the door for nearby smallholders and emerging producers to cultivate specialty coffee in meaningful volumes. One such name making bold strides is Kevenka Coffee, led by brothers Kevin and Kenny. With a clear vision to elevate Indonesia's coffee profile, they’ve invested heavily in infrastructure and post-harvest details setting a new standard for Ijen coffees.

This lot showcases a 48-hour natural anaerobic fermentation, yielding a surprisingly clean cup that mimics washed coffee in clarity. It opens with elegant notes of white grape and citrus zest, moving gently into soft florals like ylang-ylang. The sweetness is layered starting with medium caramel and transitioning into panela, finishing with light hints of tutti-frutti, dried fruit, and prune. A truly refined cup that reflects both the terroir and Kevenka’s dedication.

Rooted in Surabaya and driven by deep ties to East Java, Kevenka Coffees has steadily grown into one of the region’s most exciting green coffee producers. Their mill is based in the fertile highlands of Ijen a volcanic terrain known for its mineral rich soil and crisp climate, where coffee grows with clarity and depth.

Kevenka’s journey begins with strong, transparent partnerships with local farmers and collectors. Every cherry received undergoes a thorough selection process, ensuring only the ripest, highest quality fruit is chosen for processing. In this harvest, Kevenka introduces three processing styles: Natural, Washed with 48-hour Anaerobic Fermentation, and Natural with 48-hour Anaerobic Fermentation. Each method reveals a different layer of Ijen’s terroir whether it’s the clean structure of the washed or the fruit forward elegance of their short anaerobic naturals. With an experienced team, upgraded drying beds, and new processing equipment, Kevenka now delivers even greater consistency and quality at scale proof of their commitment to pushing Indonesia’s specialty coffee forward.
