Processing washed coffee in origins like Ethiopia is a refined practice that requires a consistent and reliable water source to execute properly. Our latest release from the Duromina Washing Station exemplifies this luxury, leveraging its proximity to a clean, fresh river to achieve impeccable washing. This harvest showcases their meticulous craftsmanship, resulting in a coffee that embodies balance and harmony in every cup.

Compared to other washed Ethiopian coffees we’ve sourced, Duromina stands out with its remarkable flavour clarity and structured complexity. The fragrance offers a delicate sweetness reminiscent of creamy daisy flowers, complemented by gentle citrus aromas of stone fruits. In the cup, it reveals a well-balanced profile, featuring notes of sweet peach, lime candy, and subtle hints of yellow plum. The tea-like body enhances its light, refined flavours, making it a delightful choice for filter coffee enthusiasts.

Duromina is a testament to the beauty of precision and care in coffee processing, delivering a charming, versatile brew perfect for daily enjoyment.

The Producer

The Duromina Coffee Washing Station, nestled in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region at 1,984 meters above sea level, has grown from humble beginnings into a key player in the coffee industry. Established nine years ago by the Duromina Primary Cooperative with 189 members, it now supports nearly 400 farmers. The station has expanded operations to include two additional sites, each processing up to 200,000 kg of red cherries annually, with plans to scale to 1,000,000 kg. Its workforce comprises six permanent staff and up to 120 seasonal workers, reflecting its growing role in the local economy.

Duromina’s meticulous coffee processing involves sorting, pulping, mechanical mucilage removal, and drying on raised beds for 7 to 11 days, ensuring consistent quality. Once processed, the coffee is stored in secure, concrete-walled facilities until shipment. These rigorous practices underscore the station’s dedication to producing high-quality coffee that meets industry standards.

Beyond coffee, Duromina is committed to environmental sustainability and community development. The station actively engages in reforestation efforts, infrastructure improvements, and farmer training programs to enhance livelihoods. Despite financial challenges, it consistently upholds regulations through regular audits, solidifying its reputation as a responsible and forward-thinking leader in Ethiopian coffee production.
