FDO

Karindundu Factory is located near the town of Karatina on the fertile slopes of Mount Kenya in Nyeri County. More than 500 smallholder farmers contribute to its annual production with most cultivating coffee alongside macadamia banana maize and beans. Farms sit between 1,700 and 1,900 metres above sea level where cool temperatures slow cherry maturation and encourage the development of dense flavour rich coffee.

It has been some time since a Kenya coffee appeared in the Arkib line up. For this harvest we partnered with Falcon to secure an auction lot that reflects the qualities we admire most in washed Kenya coffee. Karindundu AA delivers the classic bright malic acidity often associated with the country's finest lots. As the highest screen grade in Kenya coffee the AA designation is matched by a cup that feels focused precise and remarkably harmonious.

On filter the coffee reveals notes of pomelo and baby tomato creating an engaging and dynamic drinking experience. Meyer lemon sweetness and soft caramel provide balance allowing the vibrant fruit character to shine with clarity. As the cup cools delicate white floral notes emerge reminiscent of a fragrant tea. Karindundu AA is a coffee that reminds us why great washed Kenya coffees remain some of the most captivating cups in the world.

The Producer

The Karindundu factory operates under the Barichu Cooperative Society which has become recognised for its commitment to quality and producer support. Coffee is collected from smallholder farmers and processed under strict quality standards to ensure consistency from harvest to harvest. Through ongoing training in agronomy selective picking and farm management farmers are equipped with the knowledge needed to continually improve both yield and cup quality. The cooperative also encourages responsible environmental practices and supports greater participation of women across its membership.

This lot is composed of Kenya's most celebrated varieties including SL28 SL34 and Ruiru 11. Together they create a profile that reflects the character of Mount Kenya with clarity structure and layered sweetness. SL28 contributes vibrant complexity and wine like fruit character while SL34 brings depth and balanced acidity. Ruiru 11 adds resilience and consistency in the field. The result is a coffee that captures both the strength of the cooperative and the remarkable growing conditions of one of Kenya's most respected coffee producing regions.
